As summer reaches its peak, it’s time to shift gears from summer maintenance to the "autumn transition." Join us in our No-Dig urban garden for a hands-on workshop focused on maximizing your current summer bounty while simultaneously prepping your beds for the cooler months. We’ll show you how to gracefully wind down your summer crops—like tomatoes and peppers—to make space for a productive autumn and winter garden.

What You'll Learn?

🔹 The Final Summer Push & Clearing: Learn how to manage the "late-season surge" in your tomatoes, cucumbers, and aubergines. We’ll cover ripening techniques for the final fruits and, crucially, how to clear spent crops using No-Dig methods that preserve the soil’s fungal networks. We’ll also tour the MOES Tuinen beds to identify which plants are ready to retire and which can keep producing into the first frost.

🔹 Preparing the "Winter Foundations": Healthy winter plants require foundation already from July/August. We will demonstrate how to replenish your beds with a fresh layer of compost (the "No-Dig mulch") immediately after harvesting summer crops. You’ll learn how to maintain soil health and biology as the days shorten, ensuring your ground stays in abundance during winter.

🔹 Seasonal Tips + Q&A: Don’t let your beds sit empty! We’ll dive into succession planting for autumn and winter harvests. This includes the best varieties for late-season sowing—such as hardy greens, brassicas, and root vegetables—and how to use simple protection (like mesh or fleece) to extend your growing season well into the end of the year.
